Greene County honors customer‑service winners and three longtime employees set to retire

Erin Thornhill, Greene County’s human resources director, introduced the county’s quarterly customer‑service award program at the Board of Commissioners’ Oct. 23 meeting, announcing six randomly drawn winners from 27 nominations for the third quarter.
"Outstanding customer service is a top priority for our commissioners," Thornhill said, describing the nomination process, the quarterly drawing and a $100 Visa gift card awarded to each winner.
The board recognized the six employees and the reasons their colleagues nominated them: Jillian Hedrick, Children’s Services training coordinator (Job and Family Services), for covering state‑level CAPS troubleshooting and stepping into a staffing gap; Libby Powers, social services supervisor (Visitation Center/Families and Children First), for leading through a staffing shortage and a data‑system transition; Dustin Buer, Management Services Specialist (Job and Family Services), for managing critical tasks during an extended absence; Matt DeWitt, auto equipment technician (County Services), for running the county garage solo through a busy week; Kylie Matthews, caseworker (Job and Family Services), for managing a difficult child‑welfare case leading to placement; and David Shearer, Administrative Support Associate (Job and Family Services), for providing intensive one‑on‑one help to a remote learner after a virtual training.
The recognitions were accompanied by a group photo and applause. "You guys are what make — make Greene County great," an official said during the presentation.
Later in the meeting the board adopted three resolutions honoring longtime staff members who are retiring. The board commended Charles "Chuck" Fraser for 36 years of service with Greene County Parks and Trails and noted he will be appointed to the park board after retirement. An unnamed board member praised Fraser: "When you look up great guy in the dictionary, Chuck's face is on there twice." The board moved and seconded a resolution commending Fraser; the motion carried with ayes recorded.
The board also approved resolutions honoring Patty Braden for her years in the fiscal department at Job and Family Services and Janice Brooks for 25 years of service across Family and Children First and the fiscal/development office. Both resolutions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with ayes recorded.
The recognitions highlight the county’s stated goal to acknowledge staff who step beyond daily duties to maintain operations and support residents. The board adjourned the regular meeting and announced a work session to follow later the same day.
