The Nevada Community School District Board of Education met on Nov. 17, 2025, to complete its organizational business following the Story County certification of election results. The board certified the county abstract and swore in newly elected directors; board members then held officer elections and approved a set of standard administrative authorizations.
Business-office staff reported that on Nov. 12 the Story County Board of Supervisors certified the election results and named Tori Karshrud and Emily Schack as the top vote-getters in the at-large director race. The board moved to approve the abstract of votes and approved it by voice vote.
During the organizational portion, the board administered the oath of office to newly elected directors. A nomination process followed for board officers; after nominations and a voice vote the board elected Tom (returning) as vice president. The transcript does not clearly record the full name of the newly elected president in the roll-call discussion.
The board also approved routine operating-practice items. Members authorized the board president and board secretary to issue payroll checks, pay utility bills and pay bills carrying a prompt-pay discount. The board designated the Nevada Journal as the district's official publication for legal notices and confirmed its current law firm as legal counsel (the transcript alternately refers to the firm as "Allers and Cooney," "Hollers and Cooney," and "Hallers and Cooney"); the board voted to retain the firm as counsel.
The meeting included recognition of outgoing board members, who were presented plaques and lifetime athletic passes. The retiring board adjourned and the newly organized board took up its business immediately afterward.
The board also made committee assignments for external representation, including seats on the Story County Conference Board, the City of Ames Conference Board (by virtue of district property located in Ames), the NCRC and SIAC; members volunteered to fill those roles.
The board concluded the organizational items and moved on to a budget presentation. The next regular meeting was scheduled for Dec. 1, 2025.
Ending: The organizational actions were completed by voice votes; outgoing members were thanked and photographed, and the newly organized board advanced to its regular agenda.
