Lamar council approves airport capital improvement program submittal to FAA

The Lamar City Council approved submission of its Federal Airport Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for fiscal years 2027 through 2031 during its Dec. 2 meeting.
City staff, reviewed by the Airport Advisory Committee, presented a multi-year project list that includes continued apron expansion, lighting upgrades, a parallel taxiway and new items proposed for FY27 such as perimeter fencing and a gate and a parking-lot expansion. Staff told council the recent taxiway project came in under budget, creating potential savings that could be reallocated to fencing and gate work.
Councilmembers asked whether new hangars would include vehicle parking and whether current hangars are occupied; staff replied that most hangars are in use and the hangar with an existing slab will have adjacent vehicle parking. When asked about funding sources, staff said the airport projects are largely federally funded — "about 90%" — with the balance typically covered by state or local matches as applicable.
Council moved to approve the CIP submittal and the motion carried by voice vote. The administration said the submittal should be filed by Dec. 19, 2025.
Next steps: staff will finalize and submit the CIP to the FAA by the recommended date; specific project bidding, matching funds and schedules will follow federal and state grant processes.
