The German Village Commission voted to approve several exterior and site changes at a Purdy Alley house after staff and commissioners split a previously denied package and accepted a narrower set of items.
Owner Brad Hamminger sought permission for a four‑foot wrought‑iron fence, replacement of a gravel driveway with brick, a new 180‑square‑foot brick patio, three new window boxes and the installation of six Marvin Ultimate double‑hung windows and LP SmartSide siding. Commissioners reviewed the earlier denial items and agreed to treat some elements as a "test case" for replacement materials on an existing historic building.
At the meeting Commissioner Rot moved "to approve as amended by the applicant to add a gooseneck utility fixture over the rear east door and to remove the gutter replacement item from the application." The motion passed by voice vote. The commission emphasized the applicant should not act on the approved items until the Historic Preservation Office issues the formal COA letter.
Commissioners noted remaining items that were previously denied remain available for appeal or future application; the owner was advised on appeals timeframes and possible engagement with code enforcement where unpermitted work has already occurred.
Next steps: HPO will issue the COA letter reflecting the approved scope and conditions; the owner and staff will coordinate outstanding denial matters separately.
