Commerce City Council voted on Nov. 17 to direct the city manager and staff to review the viability of creating a Small Business Ambassador program to implement recommendations from the Small Business Task Force and to report back by the first regular meeting in March.
Councilmember Dukes moved the direction; Councilmember Ford seconded. Mayor Pro Tem Noble proposed an amendment to broaden the program to include larger businesses and to align with prior blue‑ribbon economic development work; Dukes declined the amendment, saying the original task force work was intentional and focused specifically on small business needs. The motion carried with eight votes in favor and one excused absence.
Councilmembers emphasized the need to move beyond the task force's report to take concrete action that addresses permitting, impact fees and space shortages that hinder small business growth. Staff will review program viability and return recommendations to council.
