Hayden City Council members voted unanimously Monday to accept a 30-day extension of the city's law enforcement services agreement with Kootenai County and authorized the mayor to sign the extension if the county offers it.
The motion, introduced by an unidentified council member, asked the council “to accept a 30 day extension for law enforcement services contract should the county offer and authorize the mayor to sign said extension if offered.” A second was recorded and the council took a roll call vote.
The extension is designed to maintain continuity of law enforcement coverage while the parties finalize a longer-term agreement. A staff member told the council the agenda item is the agreement with Kootenai County and that an addendum or extension could be considered; the staff member added that if the county does not offer an extension, the city will be contacted to set a date to consider the contract.
In the roll call, Council member Schaeffer, Council member White, Council president Rotor and Council member Dupree each voted “Yes.” The presiding official announced the motion passed.
After the vote the council moved to adjourn. If the county offers the 30-day extension, the mayor is authorized to sign it; if not, council staff will schedule further consideration of the full contract.
