Council renews ALS interlocals through 2035 and approves dissolution of EMS oversight authority

The Lincoln City Council voted Nov. 24 to approve a suite of interlocal agreements that extend advanced life support (ALS) emergency services provided by Lincoln Fire & Rescue to surrounding cities, villages and rural fire districts through Aug. 31, 2035.
Jamie Pospecial, battalion chief of EMS with Lincoln Fire and Rescue, told the council these interlocals formally extend prior arrangements and allow either party to terminate with 30 days’ written notice. The agreements cover jurisdictions including Waverly, Palmyra, Greenwood, Douglas, Cortland Rural Fire District, Claytonia, Bennett Rural Fire District, and Adams.
The council also approved articles of dissolution for the Lincoln Lancaster County EMS Oversight Authority Inc., which staff said is part of a reorganization after earlier amendments to Title 7 on ambulance service. City Law Department attorney Chris Connelly told the council that ongoing expenses remain but that staff expects there will be enough money to pay creditors and that roughly $8,000 may remain to return to the city after final accounting.
Each interlocal and the dissolution were adopted by recorded votes or unanimous roll calls as shown in the meeting record.
