Board votes to expel Cedar Crest student for controlled-substance policy violation, authorizes written adjudication

Following an executive session, the Cornwall-Lebanon School District board returned to open session and took disciplinary action related to a student-discipline matter.
Board President Ruth Ann Schlegel made a motion that the board accept the finding that a Cedar Crest High School student identified as 252604 was in violation of the district's controlled-substance policy No. 227. The board voted in favor of the motion by a show of hands, with the vote recorded as 8'0to'0.
Schlegel then moved that the board accept the administration's recommendation to expel student 252604 from the district for a period of up to one calendar year, while allowing the superintendent discretion to modify the consequence. The motion passed unanimously, 8'to'0.
The board also authorized and directed the district solicitor and administration to prepare a written adjudication for the student to be signed by appropriate district representatives and to provide the adjudication and an explanation of appeal rights and continuing-education options to the student and parents "as promptly as possible." These formal actions were taken in open session after the executive session and were announced to the public at the meeting's close.
The board later approved an agreement related to a different student identified as SE252061 and then adjourned.
