Jackson County supervisors appoint Jennifer Jones to fill recorder vacancy

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors appointed Jennifer Jones to serve as county recorder effective Jan. 2, 2026, following the resignation of Arlene Schauff, Auditor Lisa Smith told the board.
Smith said Schauff had tendered her resignation effective Dec. 31, 2025, and that the auditor’s office had published the required notice under Iowa Code Chapter 69. Jones introduced herself to the board as the current first deputy recorder and a 25‑year county employee. Supervisor Mike Steiner moved to appoint Jones to fill the remaining term; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Smith said the appointment is intended to run until the next pending election. Board members thanked Jones for stepping into the role and noted the county will begin the process to fill the deputy position Jones is vacating.
The board also accepted the county recorder’s monthly report and authorized publication of routine proceedings during the same meeting.
