The East Lansing Planning Commission carried several procedural items on Nov. 19.
The commission approved the meeting agenda after a motion moved by Commissioner Overbey and seconded by Vice Chair Wagner; the chair recorded a paper vote and stated the motion carried.
The commission also approved the minutes from its Oct. 8 meeting following a motion and second; the chair recorded 'motion carries.'
On an item of calendar business, the commission reviewed a proposed 2026 meeting schedule (second and fourth Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m.). Following discussion about conflicts and scheduling, Commissioner Chaney moved to adopt the calendar and Commissioner Overby seconded; the chair recorded the motion carried and the 2026 calendar was adopted as presented.
The commission considered an appointment to serve as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). Staff described the ZBA’s role (quasi-judicial reviews of dimensional variances, monthly first-Wednesday meetings at 6 p.m., three-year terms beginning in 2026). Following nominations, Vice Chair Wagner accepted the nomination to serve as the planning commission alternate to the ZBA; the chair recorded the appointment. Staff said the appointment becomes effective Dec. 9 and the first likely meeting for alternates is Jan. 7.
At the end of the meeting, Commissioner Putz moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Sobolewski and the chair recorded the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
