Taft police chief reports November activity, introduces two new officers

At the Dec. 2 Taft City Council meeting, Police Chief McMinn presented the department's November activity numbers and personnel updates.
Chief McMinn said total incidents for November were 995 and total calls for service were 367. He reported 628 officer-initiated actions (with 294 described in a separate category), 59 vehicle and property checks, 124 officer cases written and six accident cases. He reported 59 arrests for the month, specifying 49 misdemeanor arrests and 10 felony arrests.
The chief introduced two newly commissioned officers, Officer Topete and Officer Beach, noting they are local hires and are now working independently. McMinn also thanked dispatchers "Daryl, Tanya, Stacy, Shannon and Yahaira" and encouraged residents to participate in events such as Shop With a Cop, which benefits local children.
Chief McMinn closed by urging motorists to slow down because fog and moisture in the area increase the risk of accidents.
The report was received during the department reports portion of the meeting; there was no formal council action tied directly to the report during open session.
