Council approves police department’s bulletproof vest grant application

Georgetown’s City Council on Nov. 24 approved a resolution authorizing the police department to apply for the Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant, which helps pay for body armor for officers.
Chief Allgood said the grant has helped the department in previous years and that vests typically must be rotated out every four to five years. He asked the council to approve the application; the council moved, seconded and approved the request by voice vote.
The approval allows the department to seek grant funding to offset the cost of future armor purchases in line with department replacement cycles.
