Golf director reports October profit, details new pump problems and department split

Will Burrowski, the golf director, told the meeting that the golf operation posted October revenues of "$104,794.37," expenditures of "$58,008.34 and 87¢," and a profit of "$45,959.50." He said October included multiple special events and promotions that boosted retail sales and rounds played.
"For the month of October, we saw revenues of $104,794.37," Burrowski said, adding that several tournaments and gift-certificate prizes contributed to stronger shop sales. He told members the month included six events — four occurring within a five-day span — that increased retail receipts by about "$8,965" compared with the prior October.
Burrowski also described a technical problem after installing a new irrigation pump. "The new pump is terrific when it works correctly," he said, but the unit initially produced so much output that it "destroyed the transformer outside" and blew circuit breakers inside the cart shed. The failure left the facility without electricity for several days, he said, and the city coordinated with American Electric Power to replace the transformer. Staff used extension cords and temporary charging methods to keep carts operational during tournaments.
Burrowski showed before-and-after footage of Hole 17 to illustrate the pump's effect on pressure and coverage, and said a dry patch at that hole was caused by a sprinkler head that was not running. He described thin-tine aerification work performed in October, saying the greens recovered quickly and were "hardly even noticeable" to regular players.
The presentation included descriptions of partnerships and events: Burrowski described the Drive for Trade golf tournament run in conjunction with the bridge department and an event hosted for the McAllen Elks Lodge when their usual site was unavailable. He named bridge staff appearing in event photos (Luis Bazan and others) and said a letter praising the McAllen event appears in the meeting packet.
Burrowski also said the parks and recreation department was reorganized in October into three separate units — maintenance (parks/grounds/buildings), recreation, and the golf operation as its own department — to make personnel and budget management "easier to manage." He said Sergio now oversees recreation and Isaac was promoted to lead maintenance while Burrowski remains responsible for the golf course.
On facilities and partnerships, Burrowski credited the local homeowners association and public utilities electricians for enabling fountain installations on Hole 17 by allowing the course to draw electricity from a mailbox station; he also thanked Benavides and Lowe's for materials and assistance. He described kitchen operations with hand-made tortillas and salsas and said the kitchen opens seasonally (currently about 6:30 a.m.).
The meeting concluded with a motion to accept the revenue and status reports, which carried on a voice vote. The chair then moved to adjourn.
