The Meridian City Council voted Nov. 18 to approve two land-use ordinances: changes to drive‑thru establishment rules (Ordinance No. 25‑2101) and amendments governing accessory dwelling units (Ordinance No. 25‑2102).
Clerk read Ordinance 25‑2101—an amendment to Unified Development Code section 11.4.3.11 concerning drive‑thru establishments—by title before the council considered the item. Councilman Taylor moved approval and the motion was seconded. The vice president said she had hoped the ordinance would go further in regulating drive‑thrus in Old Town but added, “I will be voting in favor of this item.”
Mister Hood (staff) described the ordinance as a “holding ordinance” and said staff expects to return with additional tweaks and a possible new public hearing in roughly two to three months to refine tiers and Old Town provisions: “We got some more feedback... ballpark 2, 3 months ish, we should have another public hearing and potential ordinance to tweak some of the tiers of the drive thrus, and Old Town is also back on the table for some discussion.”
A roll-call vote was taken and Ordinance 25‑2101 was approved.
The council then heard Ordinance 25‑2102—amending Unified Development Code section 11.4.3.12 concerning accessory dwelling units. Councilman Taylor moved approval; there was no discussion and the ordinance was approved by roll call.
Both ordinances were approved at the meeting; staff indicated further public engagement and revisions on drive‑thru policy are anticipated.
