Merrimack Valley School Board adopts school safety and daily physical activity policies

The Merrimack Valley School Board voted Oct. 6 to adopt two policies aimed at student safety and daily physical activity. The board adopted EBB, a school safety policy, and IMAH, a policy governing daily physical activity, by voice vote.
A policy committee member explained that EBB was a newly introduced school safety policy and had no highlighted edits in the packet because it is a new document provided through guidance from the New Hampshire School Boards Association. "School safety was a brand new policy," the committee member said during the meeting.
The committee also presented additional policy items: JICJ (Unauthorized Communication Device Policy), JIC (student conduct), JLIA (supervision of students), and EBCH (chemical safety and chemical hygiene plan). The board noted minor language edits to align pronouns and headed sections and added an ADA-compliance requirement for online code-of-conduct publications. The chemical safety document remains under review because it is lengthy and requires further work.
Board members had the opportunity to ask clarifying questions before each vote. After discussion, the board adopted IMAH as presented. The meeting minutes record that both adoptions passed on voice votes; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript.
The policies adopted on Oct. 6 take effect as the district posts the approved language; additional reviews and committee work on longer documents will continue at subsequent meetings.
