Ishpeming council authorizes fire-truck RFP, hires UPEA for BrassWire solar oversight and approves SRF pay requests

Ishpeming — At its Nov. 4 meeting the Ishpeming City Council authorized several procurement and contract actions, including issuing an RFP for a new fire truck, approving professional services for a campground solar project and adopting two state-revolving-fund reimbursement resolutions.
Randy, who introduced the fire-truck RFP, said the purchase would be funded by a state program that requires the vehicle be manufactured and assembled in Michigan, and staff asked the council to authorize the issuance of the RFP with an aggressive turnaround seek of about 60 days.
"This money is coming from the state of Michigan, so the fire truck must be manufactured and then assembled in the state of Michigan," Randy said, and the council authorized issuance of the RFP.
UPEA and BrassWire solar
Staff also asked the council to authorize a professional-services agreement with UPEA to represent the city on the planned solar array at BrassWire Campground. Under the arrangement UPEA would provide design oversight and project representation while the local utility (UPCO) handles the primary service connection and electrical engineering. The council authorized the manager to execute the agreement pending legal review.
SRF pay requests and contractor payments
Council reviewed and adopted two resolutions authorizing pay reimbursements under the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). Staff discussed contractor pay requests (Payne & Dolan and UP Engineers were named) and retainage arrangements; some specific pay-request figures in the public transcript were transcribed ambiguously and will be captured in finance records for publication.
Other community items
During public comment the MCIC representative told council the July BrassWire adventure ride could draw roughly 50–300 student riders and families and asked to rent the campground; staff told the organizer to file a special-event application. The council also approved a small restoration contract at the new skate park and continued existing SNAP relief through December.
What happens next
Staff will proceed with the fire-truck RFP and UPEA contract pending legal review, and finance will finalize pay-request figures for the SRF reimbursements and return any required documentation to council.
