Publix Charities gives Polk County Public Schools $100,000 to support school food pantries

Publix Charities presented a $100,000 donation to Polk County Public Schools on Nov. 18 to support school food pantries across the district.
Jeanette Crowley and John Doran described how the strategic partnerships team and Publix Charities assessed pantry sites over the summer and conducted site visits before the school year. Doran said the funding is intended to augment local donations and partnerships and to improve food variety, quality and quantity at each pantry; the district will work with Publix Charities to evolve the program.
Crowley and Doran listed initial distributions: participating "community-supported" sites will receive $1,000 and "programmatically supported" sites will receive $500 in this initial round. The announcement named both groups of recipient schools; district officials and Publix representatives posed for a photo with a ceremonial check.
District staff said the funding will supplement 20 existing school food pantries for the 2025–26 school year and work alongside local schools and partners to target needs.
