During discussion, supporters acknowledged the proposed salary cited in the meeting record (about $110,000) is higher than the current position but argued the net budget impact would be offset by internal savings. "He carries a skill set that allows us to save almost $50,000 on engineering," said Mister Towsley.
On a motion to waive the third reading, the council recorded unanimous support; the subsequent roll-call vote to adopt the ordinance was also recorded in the affirmative. The ordinance confirms Rohrer's appointment and declares the action an emergency so the appointment can proceed ahead of the usual three-reading schedule.
The council indicated Rohrer is expected to begin in January, with a start date discussed as early January in the meeting.
