The Kingsburg Downtown Business Improvement District advisory board voted Dec. 2 to share the cost of a Santa appearance for downtown holiday events, approving a $300 contribution toward a $600 fee.
The motion to share the cost was introduced during the board’s regular meeting by an unnamed board participant and seconded by Christina; the board voiced its approval. Cindy Rekier, who presented the item, said the BID had already written a check and requested a $300 reimbursement to the chamber. "Total cost for Santa is $600. This is a check that we have already written him," Rekier said, and she asked that the BID’s portion be routed to the chamber.
Board members also confirmed the BID is paying for the trolley used during downtown holiday activities. When a member asked whether the BID was covering the entire trolley cost, the chair replied, "We're covering the whole trolley," and said that had been approved earlier.
Members discussed how to publicize the Santa appearances and the trolley schedule; one member asked for a downtown‑specific social media post and a map or list of trolley stops. The board also resolved to try to arrange a trolley stop at Larson’s Corner, where organizers decided to locate Santa’s sleigh rather than the traditional hut. Rekier said the sleigh would be on Larson’s Corner every Saturday and described it as "really cute."
The board's approval means the BID will reimburse $300 for Santa and will continue covering trolley service during the holiday events. The board asked staff to coordinate social media posts to publicize times and locations.
The BID will address related signage and trolley‑stop appearance as a future agenda item tied to the upcoming budget discussions.
