Summary
Public works announced a downtown snow-removal operation with expanded notifications and a holding lot for towed vehicles to allow owners lower-rate retrieval until 10 a.m.; staff said they will move vehicles to commercial tow lot if not retrieved and will not issue refunds for tows.
Davenport public works staff announced an expanded downtown snow-removal operation tonight, including additional signage, email and text notifications, free parking ramp reminders and temporary blue-light parking restrictions. Staff said the city worked with the Downtown Development Partnership (DDP) to notify businesses and posted boards and signs downtown.
Public works staff outlined the towing procedure: vehicles removed for snow clearing will be placed in a holding lot west of River's Edge between River's Edge and the skate park with a reduced tow rate until 10 a.m.; if owners do not retrieve vehicles by 10 a.m., the vehicles will be transferred to Fred's Towing at the standard higher rate. Staff said the process aims to increase convenience and notification and that the city will not refund tows when vehicles are removed under the snow-removal policy.
Council members thanked public works for clearing streets and residential areas after recent storms and asked staff to continue process improvements.
Next steps: public works will implement the downtown snow-removal operation tonight and make vehicles available at the holding lot until 10 a.m.; the city will continue to improve notification processes.
