Several board members and public commenters said the matter should have been noticed and discussed by the full board.
Chair Tracy responded that she consulted the New Hampshire School Boards Association and that its executive director advised her the chair had authority to make committee appointments. "He wrote back to me and said that, yes, I could do that," she said, while also noting she had attempted to be transparent by informing the board of the appointment.
After discussion, board member David moved to discuss procedures for appointing board members to committees now; the board voted to refer the substantive policy question to the policy committee, which is scheduled to meet on June 16 at the SAU so members can review policy text and NHSBA guidance before further action.
