WACO — City staff reported Tuesday on semiannual progress toward Waco's strategic housing plan, saying task groups created to implement the plan have advanced vacant-property sales and deed work to address tangled-title parcels.
Galen Price, director of housing and community development, presented Informal Report 202‑5861, saying staff anticipate continued progress on vacancy and density efforts through Dec. 2026. The update recapped property dispositions under the vacant-property plan and noted additional deeds executed to clear title issues that impede redevelopment.
Council members thanked staff and asked whether previously completed or in‑progress items remain appropriate given changing needs. One councilor asked staff to reassess items in light of new housing trends and innovations discussed at recent conferences (including 3‑D‑printed housing and community land trusts) to ensure the plan remains aligned with community needs.
Staff did not propose formal changes during the session but indicated future semiannual reports will provide a status update and potential recalibration of actions as needed.
Next steps: staff to continue work through task groups, monitor progress toward the plan’s objectives, and prepare the next semiannual update with any recommended adjustments.
