The Cumberland County Circuit Court processed a long docket that included arraignments, pretrial conferences and civil scheduling matters.
Arraignments: Several defendants were arraigned or had pretrial conferences. Beth Garment was arraigned on DUI and related charges and was given negotiation day on Dec. 12 and a follow-up date on Dec. 18. Matthew Day, Bobby Garmin and others were likewise advised of charges and dates; the court routinely signed reciprocal discovery orders to ensure defense counsel receive Commonwealth evidence.
Civil and family scheduling: In family and civil cases, the court directed parties to produce trial memoranda and lists of disputed assets. For the Carver v. Brett farm-asset dispute, the judge ordered a trial memorandum and suggested trial dates in February or March, setting Jan. 22 as a deadline for the parties’ trial briefs. The court also handled custodial/guardianship motions where the GAL recommended returning children to a parent and instructed staff to prepare simple orders to effect the change when uncontested.
Administrative notes: The court instructed counsel to consolidate frequent piecemeal motions when possible, set specific summary‑judgment response deadlines in a commercial matter (response due within five business days; hearing Dec. 4 in Clinton County), and scheduled DVO matters and privacy‑sensitive hearings later in the docket to protect minors.
What’s next: Many criminal cases were set for negotiation on Dec. 12 and return on Dec. 18; civil parties were given January deadlines for trial memoranda with suggested trial dates in February or March depending on local calendar availability.
