Brookhaven says Greenway Phase 2 residents were offered relocation packages under federal rules

Patty, strategic-partnerships staff, said the city "went through a rigorous local, state, and federal process" and that "the federal government, under the Uniform Relocation Act, determined that those packages should be offered, but there was no mandatory relocation." She identified the affected property as Rio at Lenox and said only some residents opted to relocate because many anticipated only parking inconvenience. The city sent letters and coordinated with local groups — including the Latin American Association and a community group called We Love Beaufort Highway — to provide information and answer questions; staff provided an email contact (cdbg@brookhaven.ga.gov) for resident inquiries.
Council members thanked staff for clarifying the federal requirements and noted that some Rio at Lenox residents had received incorrect information from property management; staff said they will continue outreach and that the Greenway construction will take several years to complete.
No binding relocation decision was taken at the work session; staff described ongoing outreach and the availability of relocation packages to eligible households under federal rules.
