The Mifflin County School District board formally recorded its newly elected directors and completed its annual reorganization on Dec. 4, swearing in members and electing the board’s officers for the coming calendar year.
At the start of the public meeting, the roster of legally elected and qualified directors was read into the minutes: Mark Baker (term to 2029); Jessica Baumgartner (to 2029); Brent (Herb/Erb) (to 2029); Dr. Brian Ketchum (to 2027); and Cody L. Wine (to 2029). Newly elected members who had not previously taken the oath—Baumgartner, Mr. Wyand and Dr. Ketchum—were administered the oath of office.
The board then moved to officer elections. The board recommended and voted to appoint Zed Harshbarger as president for the next calendar year. A motion and second were recorded and a roll‑call in the minutes shows affirmative votes from the members recorded in the transcript; the motion carried.
Brent Erb was nominated and elected vice president by roll call after a motion and second.
During the reorganization discussion, the board also reviewed and approved the district’s 2026 meeting calendar: January through October regular cadence with Committee of the Whole followed by the regular board meeting, adjusted November and December schedules because of holidays, and a 6:30 p.m. start time at the Administration Building. The board added, to meet state budget‑posting requirements, a May 21 special voting meeting and scheduled split voting meetings in July and August to avoid a prolonged summer gap.
The board announced committee assignments for the coming year, including operating‑committee appointments to the Midland County Academy of Science & Technology and volunteer assignments for standing committees such as curriculum, buildings & grounds, and policy. The PSBA (Pennsylvania School Boards Association) liaison role was filled by Mr. Lyon.
The reorganization session recessed to the Committee of the Whole after completing the oaths, elections and committee assignments.
