School board approves change orders and accepts substantial completion for South Fork Junior High projects

The Livingston Parish School Board approved two change orders for the South Fork Junior High project and accepted a certificate of substantial completion.

At item 5, presenter Jim Zylor asked the board to approve Change Order No. 1, an add of $6,935.52 to address unforeseen soil at a culvert or drain line discovered during demolition. Zylor said that change raises the portion of the project to $1,321,935.52. The board moved, seconded and approved the change order without recorded opposition.

At item 6, the board considered Change Order No. 3. Presenter (identified in the transcript as Jim Zeiler) described two items: upgrading the junior high cafeteria flooring to a Tarkett product (a negotiated add of $22,475 after an initial subcontractor price near $45,000) and additional painting costs of $5,906 related to changed paint colors, for a total requested add of $28,381. The presenter said the revised contract price would be $21,393,440.41 and noted the upgrade should reduce maintenance moving forward. The board voted to approve the request.

At item 7 the board was asked to accept a certificate of substantial completion for the South Fork Junior High project. The presenter reported roughly $23,800 in punch‑list items had been corrected and recommended the board accept the certificate; the board approved the acceptance.

All three items were approved by voice vote with no recorded nay votes. Presenters emphasized that the change orders and final acceptance keep the project on budget and provide a final floor product intended to reduce future maintenance.
