The Madison County Board of Supervisors adopted the county'wide 2026 budget and related levy measures and passed Local Law No. 7 for 2025, a local law that rescinds Local Law No. 5 and overrides the county'wide tax levy limits.
Matt Roberts, chairman of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, summarized the package before the vote, saying the finance committee approved budget modifications for 2025, reallocated host-community funds back to the highway department and implemented the tax levy limit override. "We are receiving the tax levy limit override, and we are levying on unpaid school taxes and building taxes, and we're approving the budget for 2026," Roberts said during committee remarks.
The board moved resolution 16, adopting the budgets for fiscal year 2026. Roll calls across the finance items repeatedly returned unanimous or near'unanimous support during the session, with the clerk announcing "1,268 votes in favor" on several matters. The actions included apportionment of county taxes, appropriation of county government funds for 2026, and related budget modification resolutions.
Resolution 23, the final adoption of Local Law No. 7 for 2025 (the tax levy override), was moved and approved later in the meeting as a final resolution. The board also adopted other routine governance items (fixing meeting times, organizing the board), and the NYSERDA clean energy communities award (see separate article).
The measures take effect according to normal county procedures; the board did not amend the adopted budget on the floor beyond the listed modifications. The meeting record shows the board proceeded from committee reports to roll-call votes, and the clerk recorded the vote tallies immediately after each roll call. The board recessed after completing the agenda.
