Greene County approves one‑year electricity aggregation contract at 9.33¢/kWh

The Greene County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 25 authorized a one‑year electricity aggregation contract through December 2026 at a fixed rate of 9.33¢ per kilowatt‑hour and authorized the county administrator to sign the agreement once acceptable legal terms are finalized.

Administrator Huddleston, filling in for the absent administrator, said the county’s aggregation program saved residents money in prior years but that market volatility and new large demand (data centers) have raised prices. Huddleston recommended a one‑year term at 9.33¢ because longer terms under current bids carried higher prices. He said, "So while 9¢ is not what we'd hoped for, it's a whole lot better than what we've seen," and noted there are no termination fees so customers could switch if market prices fall.

Huddleston told the board the county received bids from only one vendor, the incumbent DynaG, and that the county’s current comparison rate sits at about 6.27¢/kWh; he said market offers in recent months have reached 12–13¢, so the recommended rate is comparatively lower. He also said DynaG’s comparable offer for the same term is about 4.5¢/kWh, which informs the difficulty of the market; the prosecutor’s office has reviewed a sample contract and staff requested authority to have the county administrator sign the final agreement when legal conditions are acceptable.

A commissioner moved to approve the one‑year contract through December 2026 and to authorize the county administrator to execute it; after a second, the motion passed by voice vote.

The action locks a countywide electricity supply price for participating unincorporated residents and small businesses through Dec. 2026; staff emphasized customers remain free to leave without penalty if market prices fall. The board did not set a later public vote date; implementation will follow administrator execution and any final legal adjustments.
