Muhlenberg board accepts KETS aid, approves multiple construction change orders and purchases four buses

The Muhlenberg County Board of Education reviewed routine financials, accepted a state technology-assistance offer and approved construction and transportation purchases during its regular meeting.
An unnamed district treasurer reported October financials and highlighted an investment account balance and three-year growth. The treasurer said monthly revenues were about $3.1 million and that year-to-date receipts were roughly $38.9 million; payroll for the month was presented as $3,131,005.24. The treasurer said the district's investment account value was $13,472,008.48 after reinvestment and attributed a three-year growth of $1,273,938.
On construction, staff updated the board that the high school field house completion date had been pushed to Dec. 12 because some ordered items remain outstanding. The board approved multiple change orders for the Longest Elementary kindergarten project (shelving/cabinets, sprinkler adjustments of $2,878, plumbing corrections and a $10,000 mechanical consultant closeout) and change orders for MCMS projects (a hot-water-heater stand and a freestanding stainless-steel sink) after motions and recorded seconds; each passed by voice vote.
The board accepted the Kentucky Educational Technology System (KETS) first offer of assistance for fiscal year 2026 (staff cited an offer amount of approximately $43,515) and acknowledged that the district must provide matching funds as required by the program. A motion to accept the offer was seconded and approved by voice vote.
On transportation, staff recommended buying four 72-passenger International buses to maintain fleet commonality. A staff presenter said each bus cost about $177,292 and the four-bus package totaled about $709,000.16; the board moved, seconded and approved the purchase by voice vote. Board discussion noted sharp increases in school-bus prices compared with roughly a decade ago.
Routine items were approved later in the meeting (payroll, payment of vendor bills and the consent agenda). The board took no closed-session action and adjourned.
