Muhlenberg district posts gains on Kentucky summative assessments; high school indicators improve

Stacy Jones, presenting district assessment results, told the Muhlenberg County Board of Education that the Kentucky summative assessment data became public the previous day and that the district had several notable gains across elementary, middle and high school measures.

"This is our district data'our dashboard that as you go to the school report card, and it is public," Jones said. She explained color ratings are based on a combination of current performance (status) and year-to-year change and outlined how different content-area weights apply by grade band.

Jones spotlighted one achievement per school: Bremen Elementary improved two color ratings and moved to green on climate and safety; Central City Elementary showed the largest reading gains; Greenville and Longest elementaries increased science index scores; Muhlenberg South Elementary rose across categories; and the high school moved to green across categories. Jones said the district-level high-school indicator ranking was 44 out of 179 districts, and the building-level ranking was 64 out of 228 high schools.

She also highlighted an increase in the high-school graduation-rate indicator: "It went from a 90.5 last year to 98.2," Jones said, calling it a significant improvement. Jones noted statewide changes to science assessments delayed this year's release by more than a month and said staff would provide more detail on methodology and calculations on request.

Board members asked clarifying questions about how ratings are calculated and about how the district will use the results to target supports; no formal action was required at this meeting.
