Planner Marina Lundy said the changes remove outdated colors, promote flexibility and clarity, and align the manual with current product availability from Sherwin‑Williams. Lundy told the commission that Sherwin‑Williams no longer offers most painted‑roof products, so the update removes painted‑roof options from the standards while retaining a single coordinated palette for walls and trim.
Commissioners discussed whether the amendment required City Council review; staff clarified the item is a design review approval at the Planning & Zoning level and the commission voted to approve the amendment by voice vote.
The commission’s approval directs staff to update and publish the Downtown Design Standards. Any final clarifications about whether the amendment requires council consideration will be handled through the usual city process.
