Mauldin — The City Council opened its Nov. 17 meeting with a ceremonial recognition of native son Justin Emmanuel Dean and proclaimed Dec. 6, 2025, as "Justin Dean Day" for the city.
Mayor Terry W. Merritt read a proclamation that recounted Dean’s selection in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft, his advancement to the Dodgers’ 40‑man roster in August 2025, his role on the Dodgers’ postseason roster and contribution to the 2025 World Series. Councilmember King introduced Dean for the presentation; the city presented a plaque to Dean and to his mother and hosted a brief reception and photo opportunity.
Dean, who thanked the attendees, said he appreciated the city’s support and vowed to continue representing Mauldin with pride. City staff arranged signage, a cake and photo collateral for the recognition.
