Marysville council approves two one-time paid holidays for city employees in 2025

The Marysville City Council voted to grant city employees two additional paid holidays for 2025: the Friday after Thanksgiving and the Friday after Christmas.

The request, introduced by a speaker identifying themselves as representing city employees, argued the extra days would help recruit and retain staff and align Marysville with neighboring jurisdictions. City staff said the change is a one‑time measure for 2025 and emphasized that essential services and on‑call personnel (including public safety and snow‑removal crews) will continue to be available as needed.

Council discussion focused on whether the practice should be evaluated annually and on ensuring department coverage during holidays. A councilmember said the city should review the policy year to year and that supervisors would be expected to manage on‑call staffing. The council approved the motion by voice vote.

Councilmembers and staff noted the change will not replace other leave days and that the city does not expect a material revenue impact from the one‑time 2025 change. The administration said it will monitor implementation and adjust future budgets if the council elects to make the change recurring.
