Selectmen approve publishing yearlong meeting schedule after NHMA guidance on notice

Loudon — The town administrator told the Board of Selectmen that New Hampshire Municipal Association (NHMA) guidance confirms meeting notices must be posted at least 24 hours before a meeting but that there is no prohibition on posting farther in advance.
"The law says that you have to you have to post at least 24 hours before a meeting, but it doesn't restrict how much more than the 24 hours you can you can do it," the administrator said, and proposed posting a yearlong public-meeting notice listing the first and third Tuesday meeting dates at 6 p.m.
The board agreed to post the schedule on the town website, the large public board outside the meeting location and at the post office; members recommended lamination and periodic replacement so the physical posting remains legible. The administrator noted that separate agendas for specific meetings would still be posted in advance of each session.
Members asked whether zoning and planning boards could adopt the same practice; the administrator said other boards have different procedural requirements but can publish yearly schedules where appropriate.
Next steps: the town will publish the yearlong schedule and maintain the physical posting; work sessions and other special meetings will continue to be posted at least 24 hours in advance as required by law.
