Meeker County board tables resolution urging repeal of Minnesota nuclear moratorium

The Meeker County Board of Commissioners voted on Nov. 18 to table a previously placed resolution urging repeal of Minnesota’s moratorium on nuclear energy production.
The resolution had been added to the consent agenda but was removed earlier at the request of Commissioner Schmidt so the board could do "a little more homework" and review potential redundancies with language from the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC). County administrator Andrew reviewed options (approve, deny, table) and commissioners discussed timing and the value of gathering input at the upcoming AMC annual meeting.
Commissioner Oberg moved to table the resolution to a future meeting; Commissioner Van Wert seconded. Commissioners said they wanted to ensure consistent messaging with AMC and to take advantage of the annual meeting to gather more information. The motion to table carried by voice vote; the resolution will be revisited at a later date determined by the board chair.
No policy change was made at the Nov. 18 meeting; the board left options open to vote at a future meeting after additional information is collected.
