The Onslow County Board of Commissioners took a series of mostly unanimous voice votes at its Dec. 1 meeting to approve construction administration services for the airport runway extension, modify a county park fee schedule, adopt a stormwater resolution and fill a planning‑board vacancy.
Airport Director Mitch Fronger asked the board to approve Amendment No. 2 to Task Order No. 3 with RS&H Engineering to add construction administration and resident inspector services for the county’s runway extension and associated highway relocation. Fronger said the work is expected to span about 492 calendar days and is funded with state capital infrastructure grant dollars and NCDOT funds, which he characterized as having no local tax impact. The dollar amount discussed in the record was approximately $2.446 million (the record shows slightly different transcriptions of the figure; staff confirmed the amount to commissioners during discussion).
The board also approved a modification to the Hines Farm Park and Stables fee schedule to offer cabins at a 50% discounted rate ($37.50 per night) for North Carolina local government employees, a change Assistant County Manager Carrie Sanders said would support statewide training and increase utilization of the county asset.
Additionally, the board adopted Resolution 25‑015, a statement supporting low‑impact development strategies for new and significantly renovated county‑funded facilities to reduce stormwater runoff; the resolution asks the county school board and Coastal Carolina Community College to consider similar statements.
Finally, the board appointed William Sanders to the Planning Board to the term expiring July 31, 2028. Several procedural items — including adoption of the meeting agenda and approval of the consent agenda — were also carried by voice vote earlier in the meeting.
All approvals recorded in the public minutes were voice votes with no roll‑call tallies published during the meeting.
