Summary
Probation staff told the committee that after a lengthy ledger review the office will send checks in the coming weeks to victims from cases as early as 2005, using roughly $17,000 of unclaimed funds.
Mr. Pham, speaking for the county probation department, told the committee the office has completed a lengthy process to locate victims and prepare distributions from unclaimed funds.
“We have about $17,000 to to disperse out, paying people first and then... businesses,” Mr. Pham said, explaining the effort drew on ledger cards from cases dating back to 2005 and that the office will attempt to reach known recipients before sending checks. He said the available funds will likely cover cases through about 2012 with remaining years not specified.
Pham described the administrative challenge: the county's case management system has been in place only since 2017, and older records required manual ledger review to confirm eligibility and locate potential recipients. Staff plan to mail letters first to confirm whether recipients still want the funds or can be found, then issue payments in the coming weeks.
The committee acknowledged the work required to reconcile the older records and thanked probation staff for completing the process. No formal resolution was required to disburse these funds during this meeting; Pham said the office would proceed with outreach and distribution.
