Addison approves sign‑size and logo variance for Access A to Z family health center

Barry Gustafson, representing Access Community Health Network, described on-site constraints: the building houses seven tenants with a single main entrance and two parking areas, and the Lake Street entrance is on an adjacent landlord’s property so a Lake Street directional sign was not feasible. Gustafson said a larger directional/informational sign on the 4th Avenue side would improve wayfinding and public safety for patients, who sometimes have difficulty locating the center.
Staff told the Commercial & Industrial Commission and the committee that the site’s traffic-flow challenges made the request a public-safety issue and recommended approval; the commission had previously recommended approval on Nov. 12. The building & zoning committee voted to approve the variations and the board included the sign variation on the consent agenda, which was approved.
Quotes: "We serve more than 150,000 patients a year... Our patients need to have very clear indication as to where we are," Barry Gustafson said. Staff noted the request "is more of a public safety related issue" and that the variation was recommended by the Commercial & Industrial Commission.
Next steps: The health center may install the approved directional and informational signage consistent with the variation conditions recorded in committee.
