The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority Executive Advisory Council approved its 2026 meeting schedule and agreed to add a formal, in‑person public‑comment agenda item beginning in January.
Director Adria Berry proposed meeting dates—Jan. 23, Apr. 17, Jul. 17 and Oct. 16, all at 9 a.m.—and reminded members the agency must file meeting dates with the Secretary of State by Dec. 15. The council voted to approve the dates. Co‑chair Katie Nail moved to approve the schedule and Sheriff Tommy Johnson seconded.
On public comment, Berry said she had been reluctant to open meetings in the past because earlier outreach sometimes led to abusive behavior toward staff, but she said she supports open government when it is managed with clear rules. “I like to stay pretty private in this role, but I want to open up discussion about adding an agenda item to each meeting in 2026 where we could open up comments to the public in the room,” she said.
Council members expressed support so long as time limits and decorum rules are enforced. Ross Filenco and others said public comment can deliver useful operational insight; one council member volunteered their organization as a model for sign‑in or testing procedures.
Berry said the agency will add a public comment agenda item to the January meeting, set sign‑in procedures, limit speaking time based on room availability and circulate details to stakeholders ahead of the session. The agency also plans to publish guidance on how to participate and will accept in‑person sign‑ups on the day of the meeting.
