Octorara Area School District — The school board approved a slate of routine contracts, personnel actions and first readings of several policies at its meeting, advancing facilities repairs and staffing decisions as the district prepares its budget for next year.
The board voted to award an estimate of $26,799 to Economy Glass to remove and replace insulated glass at the Primary Learning Center entrance after members said the frames were leaking and showing mold. It approved an HVAC option for Octorara Area High School that ties a new air handler into an existing unit (presented options: $40,632 vs. $42,543). The district also approved a $2,100 weed-control contract for the softball field and selected a full infield renovation option at a stated cost of $37,500; board discussion noted any overage would be covered by the original contractor's bond.
Other contracts approved included $7,600 to Joseph Maudet and Son Painting LLC for painting and restoration of the sewer plant catwalk, and a cooperative sports agreement with Pequay Valley School District for the girls wrestling program effective Nov. 14, 2025.
On personnel matters the board accepted resignations and retirements — including Sarah Kluge (school counselor) and Sherry Filo Filoromo (instructional assistant, retirement effective Dec. 23, 2025) — and accepted Ken Lewis’s resignation as assistant football coach effective Nov. 12, 2025. The board approved game workers for the 2025–26 school year pending required employment documents.
Following an Act 93 salary study, the board approved salary adjustments for several administrators effective Jan. 1, 2026 (transcribed figures: John Proper $150,000; Chris Schultz $130,000; Rob Zettley $140,000; Brenton Brady $105,000; James Durbarrow $105,000; Greg Fantazzi $111,000). The board also approved an individual adjustment to increase Jill Hardy’s salary to $78,191.88 effective Jan. 1, 2026.
The board advanced first readings of policies 102 (academic standards), 103 (discrimination/harassment affecting students), 104 (discrimination/harassment affecting staff) and 105 (curriculum). Policy committee members noted updates recommended by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association to align district language with new state standards and said they would confirm specifics for the second reading, including which state observances to list.
Finance committee members flagged an emerging state budget shortfall that could reduce the district's revenues and said the board will review potential impacts — including charter-school-related calculations and real estate tax implications — as the budget process resumes in January.
The meeting included routine approvals by voice vote with no recorded opposition; the board recorded nine members present at roll call.
The board also accepted an independent educational evaluation agreement for a student at a cost of $4,500 and approved an extension of human-resources generalist services with the Chester County Intermediate Unit through Jan. 31, 2026.
The meeting closed with announcements of upcoming committee and reorganization meetings in December. The board declared the meeting adjourned.
