Hoffman Estates swears in new police commander and sergeant; board recognizes community service

Commander Mark Wandakowski and Sergeant Luis Zavala were sworn in Dec. 1; both introduced family members at the council meeting. The board also acknowledged a resignation from the Sustainability and Youth commissions and observed a moment of mourning for longtime resident/business owner Ashley Springer.
The village recognized two internal promotions in the Hoffman Estates Police Department Dec. 1. Sergeant Mark Wandakowski was sworn in as a police commander and Officer Luis Zavala was sworn in as a police sergeant. Each took the oath of office on the record and introduced family members in attendance.
Mayor McLeod congratulated both officers and thanked the department for its service to Hoffman Estates. The board also accepted the resignation of Susan Simmons from the Sustainability Commission and Youth Commission and observed that the village was mourning the death of Ashley Springer, a longtime resident and local business owner.
The promotions were ceremonial and were recorded in the meeting minutes; the police chief asked members to join in congratulating both officers.
