Manager Paul told trustees the village published notice of the public hearing in a local newspaper and that, once the public hearing concluded, the board could adopt the budget at that night's meeting as presented or amended. No members of the public signed up to comment during the hearing.
The manager and trustees discussed potential state actions that could affect village budgets in 2026, including a legislative proposal to equalize tier 1 and tier 2 pensions for public employees that the village lobbyist described as an unfunded mandate that could add material annual cost pressure.
Because the hearing is the statutorily required opportunity for public comment, the next steps the board can take are adoption of the budget as presented or adoption with amendments; meeting minutes indicate the board retained the option to adopt at the village board meeting that followed the hearing.
