The council unanimously adopted an amendment to Section 4‑2‑10 of the municipal code (International Building Code section 105.5) to clarify permit expiration categories and to align processes with new permitting software scheduled to go live in December. Travis Perez, Director of Building & Code Enforcement, said the update reduces duplicative categories and helps staff and applicants track permits more efficiently; the package also maintains Leawood’s relatively strict expiration rules compared with some neighboring jurisdictions.
Council passed the ordinance by roll call (8–0). The department expects to publish the revised categories before the software goes live and to use the clearer categories to streamline online permit filings and expiration notifications.
