The board spent a portion of the meeting recognizing student achievement and staff service.
At Mathematics and Science Academy (PMSA) Principal Sanchez and Superintendent Moebvre presented student recognitions for exemplary academic and leadership behavior, naming Maria Fernanda Espa?a (Python of the Month), Mario Martinez, Miguel Carrasco, Jayla/Julia Hoover, and Alfonso for achievements including AP scores and classroom leadership.
Principal Christian and Proviso West staff highlighted graduating student Demaya Nard and a student identified as 'Ace,' who was described as the district’s only recipient of a QuestBridge National College Match scholarship and awarded a four-year scholarship to the University of Richmond. Proviso West noted Ace’s weighted GPA (~4.76) and induction into the National Honor Society.
The board also presented a certificate honoring social worker Jermaine Franklin for responding to a late-night student crisis: the presenter said Franklin notified administration and first responders, went to the family home and stayed into the early morning to support the student and family, and that "it is not an exaggeration to say that his actions that night saved a life." The board expressed its gratitude and presented a certification of recognition.
These recognition items concluded before the board moved to the superintendent’s report and subsequent business.
