Orange County reports nearly 80,000 red‑light violation notices in 12‑month period

Orange County traffic engineering read the annual summary of the county's automated red‑light enforcement program on Dec. 2, a presentation now required by changes to Florida law (Florida Statute 316.0083).

Project manager Gerald Marks told the Board that 79,471 notices of violation (NOVs) were issued in the July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025 reporting period. Of those, county staff recorded 44,470 paid violations. The county received 111 contested NOVs; 71 contests were upheld and nine were dismissed. Marks reported corrected counts for uniform traffic citations (UTCs) issued and noted timing differences between issuance, collection and reporting can cause numbers to differ across data sets.

Marks said the county currently operates 57 red‑light cameras at 35 intersections in unincorporated Orange County and said the program supports Orange County's Vision 0 initiative to reduce fatalities and serious injuries. County staff reported total funds collected of $9,434,446 for the reporting period and provided the distribution breakdown, including amounts directed to state general revenue and the county's share for program costs and traffic safety projects.

Commissioners asked staff for a map showing camera locations and for the last time the county studied camera siting (staff said the last study was in 2018). Staff said a forthcoming vendor procurement (RFP) will include evaluation of locations and crash data as the county considers potential expansion.
