Residents and community groups press council on splash pad, new horseshoe courts and local recognitions

Kate Denise told the council she was “here in support of the Madera splash pad project” and urged improvements to parks and soccer fields for youth safety. Yolanda Contreras, a member of the splash‑pad project, told the council she will “continue fighting for the splash pad today, tomorrow, until we have 1 for our kids who and then it's, accessible for our kids.” The council had earlier presented a certificate of recognition to the splash‑pad organizers.
Representatives of the Big Valley Horseshoe League urged the council to fund and build eight additional horseshoe courts at Rotary Park to qualify Madera to host state tournaments and attract visitors and hotel revenue. League founder Harlan Repoteau said the additional courts would help bring “approximately 200 people plus their families” for a three‑day state tournament and that the league has run local seasons and fundraising for 25 years. Nick Balderrama, the league president, said the club runs spring and fall leagues with “approximately 120 pitchers each season” and emphasized the economic benefits of hosting larger events.
A representative from Congressman Adam Gray’s office presented congressional certificates recognizing the Matilda Torres High School band. Councilmembers thanked volunteers and community groups for their civic contributions during the presentations and public comments.
