Board approves sale of 8.66-acre parcel in Florence to Oregon Coast Humane Society for $500

The Lane County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously on Dec. 2 to approve the sale of county property in Florence to the Oregon Coast Humane Society for $500, a conveyance staff said will allow the nonprofit to expand shelter and veterinary services.
Elizabeth Thompson, director of the Oregon Coast Humane Society, described facility limits at the existing shelter and outlined how the nonprofit would use the land: doubling dog capacity, tripling cat capacity, creating ADA-compliant single-level animal spaces, adding separate HVAC for species, enhanced quarantine areas and improved disaster egress. Thompson said the organization recently acquired a veterinary clinic to handle surgeries and that expanding the shelter site would allow the group to return its lobby to public service and improve medical throughput.
Vice Chair Seneca moved to approve order 25120206, delegating authority to the county administrator to sign the conveyance documents; Commissioner Buck seconded. Chair called the vote and the motion passed 5-0. The board and staff praised the shelter's volunteer base and the negotiated price: the minutes recorded the parcel size as 8.66 acres and the sale price as $500.
County staff said the sale is intended to enable significant facility upgrades that support animal welfare and public services in the Florence area; the county will complete conveyance documents as delegated to the county administrator.
