Council approves National Grid petitions for pole and sidewalk anchors on Main Street

Leominster — The Leominster City Council on Nov. 24 granted a series of National Grid petitions to install anchors and poles and to remove/install associated guy wires along stretches of Main Street.
Lenny Martinez, representing National Grid, described the work as anchor and sidewalk "guy" installations intended to stabilize existing poles at key intersections (Green/Main; Morton/Main; near Priest Street). The Department of Public Works and the Leominster Police Department returned referrals with no objections; DPW noted one outstanding National Grid petition on Lancaster Street that must be completed before finishing a sidewalk segment.
The public service committee recommended granting petitions 21Dash26 and 22Dash26; the council approved both (21Dash26 by 9-0, 22Dash26 unanimous). Petition 23Dash26 (a jointly owned pole with Verizon) was also granted after committee review (vote recorded 8-0 with one abstention). National Grid said remaining work to remove a tree-guy would be scheduled for early to mid-December.
Councilors confirmed that affected abutters were notified for petitions involving sidewalk fixtures and that DPW will continue coordination on any outstanding Lancaster Street work.
