The Saline County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 2 approved a two‑year contract with Community Solutions Incorporated to provide external quality assurance and training for adult community corrections staff.
Michelle Callum, community corrections director, told the board the firm audits risk‑needs assessments such as the LS/CMI and provides coaching for supervisors and staff. “It gives us a leg up where we can have an agency come from the outside and audit those kinds of things,” Callum said, adding that participating staff will receive about 12 hours of coaching and feedback annually.
Callum said the Kansas Department of Corrections funds Community Solutions’ juvenile work statewide and that the county has budgeted funds from the adult division to cover the adult side. She noted the contract contains a 30‑day termination option. After brief discussion the board moved and approved RFA 2025‑169 as presented; approval was taken by voice vote.
The contract, Callum said, is intended to strengthen the county’s internal quality‑assurance practices and to train supervisory staff so they can continue audits internally after the two‑year period. Callum said she consulted counterpart Randy Regier in Reno County about that county’s experience with the same provider.
The board offered no conditions with the approval; the contract’s effective date and vendor start‑up steps were not specified on the record. County staff indicated the adult services portion will be paid from the county’s KDOC adult division budget.
No public opposition was recorded during the item. The board moved on to the next agenda item after approval.
