Rockport-Fulton ISD board hears high-school bond progress; substantial completion slated for February

Trustees of the Rockport-Fulton Independent School District on Monday received an update on the district's 2022 bond work, with a project representative reporting that Rockport Fulton High School is the active construction site and that project billing is about 86% complete.
The presenter said roughly $39.24 million is the bond total and that about $33.56 million has been authorized so far. "Project billing is 86 percent complete," the presenter reported. He added that substantial completion is scheduled for February and that the team is conducting final punch-list work to prepare classrooms for furniture and student occupancy.
Why it matters: The new high school is central to the district's bond program and to efforts to improve campus safety, classroom conditions and student engagement. District staff emphasized that completing final inspections and finishes is the last major step before moving students into the building.
District staff said Fulton Elementary recently underwent an accessibility inspection that identified only a couple of small items requiring adjustment. "We had that inspection done, only a couple small items that just need to be adjusted," the presenter said, and staff walked the building to develop a noninvasive plan to finish those items.
Work described in the update included flooring and finish work in classroom wings, audiovisual and theater spaces, specially designed music-instrument storage that helps with sound control, canopy installation at the main entrance, and ductwork and casework in the athletic area to allow final finishes. A district speaker said furniture is already moving into the building and that crews are prioritizing the finishes that will allow classrooms to be turned over to staff.
Board members and district staff did not vote on the report; the presentation was an information item. Staff said the district will continue inspections and contractor coordination over the coming weeks to meet the February timeline.
